Maybe someone can give me some advice;

My model 12 is showing a slight crack on the stock. Just on the underside behind the trigger gaurd.

I have been told of different ways to tackle the problem from gorrila glue to glass imbedding. I have also heard the no no's of such strategies.

Is there any one best way to deal with a cracked stock?

Thanks
ioannes

Recently had to make a repair just as you described.

I used two part epoxy forcing the epoxy deep into the crack with the wifes high powered hair dryer (please don't tell her). Clamped the stockhead tightly to close the crack, wiped of the excess epoxy and 24 hours later the old girl was as good as new, maybe stronger.

When you reassemble the old girl make sure that the draw bolt is good and tight and you should'nt have any future problems.

What TB said and use a toothpick to force the crack apart slightly while injecting the epoxy. A needle and syringe helps.

I don't care if they do call you Doc we still don't do any of that needle and syringe stuff here in Kansas.

When you get epoxy the longer the curing time the stronger the bond. Also if you warm it the epoxy thins and is easier to get into cracks. Don't over clamp you don't want to force epoxy out of the crack this will weaken the bond. Unless you get marine epoxy the bond isn't waterproof, however I've never had a problem.

It really depends on the kind of crack..

A natural,stress crack inherent in the wood grain that is not separating is best served by the very liguid super glues that cure in about 30 seconds rather than instantly.

A deaper crack with space that can be returned to its original position with pressure works best for me with Accra Glass. I use the Accra Glass "reducer/solvent" to make it more liquid, apply with small tool into the crack, and have been know to "blow" it in the crack well with compressed air, then clamp, etc.
