I bought a couple of bags of Remington Wads 16 Gauge SP16 1-1/8. I only want to reload 1 oz loads but the wads are 1 and 1/8. My main question is it safe to load 1 oz of lead into 1 and 1/8 oz wads?
These are some of the loads I am thinking about.
Hodgdon Longshot Win. 209 Rem. SP16 22.7 9,500 PSI 1,300
Hodgdon Longshot Win. 209 Rem. SP16 24.0 10,500 PSI 1,350
Hodgdon Longshot Win. 209 Rem. SP16 25.4 11,200 PSI 1,400
The Hulls are 2 and 3/4'' Remington SP Plastic Shells. Are those the same hulls as RGLs?
Any thoughts and input will be greatly appreciated. |

Welcome aboard.
It is safe especially since it looks as though those recipes are taken verbatim off Hodgdon's site and as far as I know the hulls are the same. I use the SP16 in RGL hulls for my 1oz trap loads and using Herco or Bluedot (bulky powders) the shells crimp fine with no fillers. It will boil down to whether the recipe you choose crimps well. If it doesn't a filler in the form of a pinto bean, rice, filler card, cheerio, chunk of styrofoam, etc. can make up for the needed stack height.
Best of luck with it |

+1 on what putz463 said .
There are two different Remington hulls the SP (green ) and RGL black . They load the same, except the SP hulls are usually a little longer ( a full 2 3/4" ) and more consistent in length , the RGL's tend to be shorter and less consistent in length .
They both crimp very well . If you stack is good , load away. |
