One of the chukars I got yesterday, a rare chukar/chicken hybrid known as a Chuken. Why bother going to the Ruby Mtns to get an Himalayan Snocock when you can bag one of these beauties? I'm joking of course, but seriously, such a fatty!

Decided to try out my f/f Husky 310as 12ga yesterday, with 1 1/4 oz 6's. It really reaches out and touches them. I got one at 50+ yds going away. At the end of the day though, I was wishing I had my 16, as I didn't get any more birds than I do with my 16, perhaps even less, as I missed some close shots due to the tight chokes. Great gun though nevertheless.

Hey all, had a wonderful day today. My sons and I went out this afternoon for a short hunt and did very well. Weather was great and the company the best! Will and Jim were the hot guns today. Each of them got 2 and I managed 1. Raina did very well and is starting to fill the shoes of the old girl (Duchess). We saw more birds today than in previous hunts. They were on the wild side however, still a great day!

Will, Jim, Raina and our birds. Will used his Bernie Roma 3E and Jim his VS 3EC

Have to show off one of my favorite guns, my J. Blanch 12b

Not a 16 gauge, but I know there are some hammer gun fans on here, this belongs to my 20 year old son, its a 12 gauge Pedersoli. Good to see the next generation taking an interest in older guns.

Happy Christmas to you all!

Hey all, well today was out annual Christmas Eve day hunt. Didn't do very well, in fact, no birds at all! Saw some, but they were pretty wild. Still I had a great time with three of the best hunting partners I could have, my boys and my GSP.

Jim, Will and Raina

Merry Christmas to all!

Greg,

Sometimes the Lord protects his birds and animals, especially at Christmas time.

Glad you gentlemen had a nice day in the field however! We were unable to get out at all.

Yep, sometimes the birds don't end up in the bag - and that's just fine.

Hey all, went out today after Church for a short hunt. We had 8" of snow earlier this week and with the drifting, it covered up a lot of the good cover. So we were limited to where we could hunt for the short time we were out. We did see birds, but wild or hens. Raina did very well today, very happy with her this year. Jim was the only one who managed a bird today. Too bad Will couldn't, his leave is about up and he has to get back to Ft Carson. It was a great day with my sons!

Here's Will with his Merkel 16ga Royal, Raina and Jim with his Victor Sarasqueta 3CE

Floyd got back in town midweek from visiting family and despite warm temps and threat of rain, we took Pop and Sadie, his Britts, to some new ground and found some birds. We couldn't get Sadie to come out of the dog box and wear the beret which was a gag Xmas gift to Floyd. He in good nature ribs me about my French guns and boots, etc. As a good sport he wore the beret and held a bird shot with my Darne R10 20 ga. We beat the rain by minutes. Floyd's a professional carver by trade and here is a piece I've shown before. Everything is carved and painted by him including the leaves and grasshopper. He shoots as good as he carves and paints. Rick, last photo is for you. I posted this last year, another of Jacques, er, Floyd's carvings.

I don't see us in the woods until later this week. Temps the last few days have been in the 70's with nights in the 60s. It's 81 now at 3 pm today. Not good for dogs for reasons of temperatures and snakes.

Billy and friends ran into this medium sized diamondback hunting quail Saturday. With temps in the 60s he wasn't hugging ground near a hole basking, but buzzing away on a woods' road shoulder after another man got a little too close. A larger one was killed a few days before near the landowner's house on the same property. With night temps in the 60s and daytime highs in the mid 70s, I'm out of the woods with my dogs until a few days when winter temps roll back in.

I have been slacking with my photos lately. I blame it on bird hunting and ice fishing. Now I don't intend to slack in either of those two departments, so the photos get the back burner once in a while. Here is a shot from a few days ago:

Hey Gil, I like the hat and love the woodcock. Laughing Hope it cools down for you soon so you can enjoy the woodcock before they head back my way. I'm crippled up with arthritis in a knee right now. A cortisone shot got me off crutches but still too painful to walk in the woods. A replacement may be in my future. Rolling Eyes

That snake'll make a nice hatband or two.
Woops! Erased the wrong pictures. But, use the snakeskin to make a hatband and then you need a proper hat, and then can get away from that floppy thing.

Gentlemen,

Most of our big snakes are inside because it was cold for a while. Right now be careful of the Bears who are still out roaming the forest here in Pa.
