Had another good opener with the pup, now almost 4, my old 16, and dear friends. I could only find ten shells to take with me, and ran out about half way through the morning, but had two doubles and an easy limit. All hale the 16!

Wow! You're bringing back lots of great memories! Duck hunted from the early 70s until the mid 2000s on a regular basis here in Arkansas. When available, I preferred hunting flooded woods with a 16 gauge, but I've put in my time in rice fields and open water too.

Thanks for the pics!

Had you made a SLIGHT detour and came up Hwy 71 north of Ashdown I could have spotted you a flat or so of steel😁

My opener on Millwood was short on ducks but loooong on fun with good friends and my Springer.

Rooster,
I grew up on Millwood in the 70’s, and about drowned on Millwood in a pirogue once Smile
We used to bird hunt on all of the paper company clear cuts, too. Any quail still to be found? Alan

There are a few quail to be found in the hill country clear cuts north of Dierks, Umpire, and DeQueen but you can hunt two or three days to get one dog on point.

As a young lad our old farm held 13-15 coveys; haven’t seen or heard a bird in 10 years there and I do a little habitat work to maintain edge cover and food plots for them.
