Hey guys, my first post here. I know that before the war, many skeet guns were made in 16. But I was surprised to find out that Remington made both the 870 and model 48 in 16ga skeet versions as late as the early 50's. Anyone on here own one of these? Or know of any others that were made after the war?

Although there was never a specific 16 gauge Skeet Event, there was what was called ALL bore and allowed any bore less than 12 gauge, hence 16 gauge skeet. Also many women, youths and slighter built people opted for 16 gauge in the 12 gauge event.

The Model 12 Winchester was also offered in a Skeet Version.

Today I still like the 16 gauge and load 1 1/8 No. 9s over Longshot for skeet. Proportionately 1 1/8 ounce loads would be probably the correct correlation.

LC Smith guns were made in skeet models in 16ga as well as others in the early days of skeet shooting.. The Rem M11 16ga was also offered as a skeet gun.

I was just expressing surprise that 16 ga shotguns were still being made in skeet configuration that lately in the scheme of things.

Remington Arms Co. only offered The Sportsman as a Skeet Gun, but one could get a SKEET barrel for a Model 11.

I've seen Winchester Model 21 16 ga skeet guns on some of the auction sites, but none in my price range.

Some things, I have never owned a Winchester Model 21 small gauge gun.

AND I would really like a 16 gauge barrel set for my Kreighoff M-32.

Thanks for the replies. I might have one piece of equipment that skeettx doesn't. An 870 16 barrel marked skeet.

After thirty some years of not having a Model 21, I stumbled into a big 1953 vintage 28-inch, vent rib, 12-gauge Model 21 Skeet Gun in 2016, then last spring a 1940-41 vintage 16-gauge Model 21 Skeet Gun came my way. Fast becoming a favorite.

It appears to me that our American double gun manufacturers choked themselves out of the Skeet Gun market by putting way too much choke in their guns, especially in the second barrel. The WS-2 in the left barrel of the Winchesters is way too tight for regular skeet use. Mine are .015" and .014". WS-1 in both barrels would be a lot better. I have two Ithaca Skeet Guns, the 12-gauge is .009" and .016" and the 20-gauge is .008" and .014", too tight in both barrels. My Savage-era Fox Skeet Guns are a bit better with what they called Skeet Cylinder and 1/4 choke. About .005 in the right barrel with a .010 flare to the muzzle like Winchester's WS-1 and Remington's SKEET choke, in the last inch and a quarter, and .010" in the left barrel.

I have a 31 remington skeet gun like the one pictured in Reserchers post. A very good pheasant gun shooting over pointing dogs.
