My 63 seems like its closing a little sluggish but seems clean enough it shouldn't be. Does this sound like an action spring issue?
Thanks |

Hi; If you have removed the stock, disassembled, cleaned, and lubed the action spring tube and follower then action spring replacement is the only action left. If it's the original from a 1963 model then a replacement will improve your guns operation. They are inexpensive and easy to change out. If it has not been cleaned and lubed you will be amazed at the amount of dirt packed in the action tube. I am just assuming you removed the trigger assembly, bolt, etc, and cleaned the receiver rails.
Good luck; Tom |

Dongotto,
He is spot on about removing the stock and cleaning the spring AND tube. Its unbelievable the ammount of debris that works it's way in there after 50 years. I had a 1968 Sweet 16, perfect untouched condition...and clean too! Didnt cycle worth a damn...took apart the gun and the stuff that was lodged in the action tube was incredible.
Gotta have the absolute right fit, Browning Auto-5 screwdrivers...there is no way around it, and you can easily completely ruin your Auto-5 with out them. I've had it happen, and not by me. Dont ask. |

I have a good friend who recently bought a Sweet from Arts shop. He was told that browning is no longer making parts (springs) for the Sweet 16's.

Arts doesn't sell them, but they told me who did and didn't mention short supply? I have one on the way. |

Browning still sells action springs. They are the same for 12, 16, and 20ga. Grace USA sells a set of 5 screwdrivers custom ground for the screws on a Browning A-5. Sold on Amazon, Midway, Brownells, etc. Set # HG5 @ $38.00. If you have an A-5 you need these screwdrivers.

If you are going to take your A-5 apart yourself take the smallest exact blade you have and clean out the screw slots before you try you turn them out. It's amazing how much dirt collects in those slots.
