we just shot 2 rds of skeet in our wimpy/balmy 2 degrees , -15 weather . I know that makes us wimps , but that is radical enough for me . (couple 22's with my 20ga M12 Browning grd 5 pump - way good enough !)

yet, not matter how cold it is up there....how in Gods name do people in Canada live? minn must be a summer retreat for them.

A lot of people have the misconception that just because you go North that is colder. That is not the case in real life. The coldest city in Canada is Winnipeg. Which is 70 miles from North Dakota. It is colder than Edmonton which is much further North but to the West.

When someone says they are from South Ontario they are usually living further South than most people in Mn. however, and it is more mild there. And on the West coast from Canada up through Alaska it is usually warmer than Mn. and the Dakotas.

It is that strip through the Upper Midwest of North America that gets the coldest in the winter. By the time you get over to Calgary and Western Montana it warms up compared to that cold strip. Gawd bless those 3/4 million soles that live in Winnipeg though. And hundreds of small towns through there and headed North from there.

Watching the news last night it was only -30 below here where I live on a ridge. 15 miles away and to the South it was -40 below because cold air sinks. Just because you go up in elevation doesn't mean it is always colder either.

We have had a mild winter out here in Idaho this year. December and January were extremely nice. Afternoons through December were shirt sleeve weather while chasing birds.
There was concern about the snow pack as we depend on it for agriculture.
I was concerned for that and for the birds at the ranch. Low moisture equals low insect production which the quail and pheasant chicks depend on for food.
Thankfullly, February has proved the perfect remedy. Lots of moisture without the bitter cold here in the valley. Lots of snow in the higher elevations and I believe that we are on track for a good water year.
