Byrdog Shell Trimmer is possibly the most indispensable tool I own for 16 ga reloading. Converts standard 2 3/4” to 2 1/2” effortlessly and precisely in a couple seconds each. Basically enables cheap unlimited supply of 2 1/2” hulls.

BTW if you aren’t loading 2 1/2” for your everyday 16ga use, you are wasting enormous amounts of time and energy with fillers, cards, crimp issues etc. in 2 3/4” shells. In my opinion 2 1/2” is the only way to go for 16ga loads 1 oz and under. I would give up reloading (and hence shooting) 16 ga if I had to use 2 3/4” shells, they are so unsuitable, ill-fitting, time consuming and frustrating for target loads.

16 ga was originally designed for 2 1/2”, not 2 3/4”. Set up the reloader, get the right wads and hulls (Cheddite and SG16S) and out they come from the reloader bam bam bam, perfect crimps every time, no fiddling or fussing, absolutely consistent, hulls last forever (too long actually).

Byrdog trimmer makes 2 1/2” shooting practical. Use it by hand, or drill press, with impact driver, or electric drill. Very clever and resourceful design. BP’s trimmer is no better than a paperweight in comparison. Well done, Byrdog.

B.

I'll take another. Love mine and recently posted picture of it on the Parker Gun Collectors Assoc Reloading site.
