I just found a M12 16 gauge that is unfired, and shows only some closet dings on the stock...it is choked mod and has a plain 28' barrel. I am putting an original winchester solid red pad on it..(should be back from the gunsmith this weekend)..It is one sweet little shucker.
It has quail and chuckar written all over it and I wonder if it will be good for ducks over decoys. I have never even fired a 16 bore before. I also wonder if it would be possible to find an extra barrel/forend set for it...maybe choked skeet ws1 with solid rib...anyone know if this is more than a pipe dream?
I have shot model 12's since I was 13 (much older than that now) and still have my first m12...a 12 bore "heavy duck" gun...the really funny thing is that the 16 bore is a dead ringer for my old duck gun..except a lot lighter and smaller..even made in the same year..
Good to be shooting a 16 |

My youngest boy has a 1923 model 12 and I have a 1952 model 12. You can not go wrong with an old model 12.

If I hadn't seen it, I would have told you you had little chance of finding a 16 ga. skeet barrel for a M12. But I did just that several years ago on ebay. Paid $250 for it with the mag tube and original forend. The condition was not good, but I had it married to an action from Vintage Sporting (amazingly very close serial numbers) and had a new buttstock made. Not an original skeet, which I've only seen two of ever, but close enough!
BTW, the 16 ga. WS1 is the only choke I know of that was patented. They are all stamped pat. pend. It's actually a negative choke of about 3-4 thousandths. |
