A place to start may be this : Nick has said he thought the DR would hold up to non tox ... Tried 3/4 Hevi with 18grns Unique , and 3/4 Bizz 8's . The wad held up great with both tries . The Bizz by the way ended up almost exactly (volume per weight ) as West Coast 8's . Nick guessed the velocity of the Bizz load was approx. 1250 . With the vel/weight being so close , have no qualms about using that load . The next test loads to go to Precision will include some . With the sales that come every couple months from ROTO METALS , this may be the best lower cost target type loads to go to . (believe I used some of Stack's RGL cases for a good fit - RGL/CCI primers )

Looks like Mack's Prairie Wings will be selling the new HeviBismuth shells once they are in stock closer to hunting seasons. They have them listed on their website for sale (currently out of stock). A box of 16 gauge ammo (in #2, #4, #6) is selling for $32.99 and a case for $299.

More options available in 20 gauge, including 3" and 2 3/4 loads, though they look to be more expensive than the 16s at $35.99 a box and $329.99 a case.

I will be giving them a try this season.

I'm seeing 299 a case for pricing, 2s should cover geese and duck.

If anyone is thinking 2's I would suggest buying a single box for patterning. I've had mediocre results with bismuth 2's in 16 gauge in both full and modified chokes. On the other hand 4's pattern very well and are effective on both large ducks and geese out to 40 yards or a bit more.

I do quite a bit of duck hunting and I don't like #2 shot even out of a 12 gauge. I'm all about the #4 shot in the 16 gauge.

I ordered one box of fours and one box of twos of Hevi-bismuth from Mack's. They said I received the last box of 4's and there are 3 boxes of dueces left.

I kinda like Bismuth #5's and have killed ducks and pheasants just fine from 25 to 40 yards. Probably would kill them farther just never had to shoot any farther.

I know some won't like this but non-tox in the 16 Gauge is a good reloading project......better than waiting on the ammo companies.

My grandson went to Mack’s Fall Fest this Friday. Had him get two boxes of 4s for me to try..
With full choke out of my 16sxs at measured 40yds I got a average of 90 hits in a 20” circle and with mod choke it ran 85 hits. Understand that this was a SMALL sampling of two shots each. Nothing conclusive, but promising.

Picked up a box of 6's, as that was what they had in stock (6's and 2's). Really wanted 4's but went ahead, as I was getting a box of the "Classic Doubles" this line is replacing, at closeout prices. There were only a couple boxes of the CD's left, and wanted them for my 20.
I'll try the 16 HB, against the Kent 5's an 6's, for comparison (just for "kicks")
Very Happy

I also noticed, for all our cereal / bean ingredient reloaders, the Environment - Metal Group is also into "natural" fillers. They top off several of their specialty loads with flaxseed!

I see that Hevi Shot is make a number 2 bismuth. I am thinking about using this on a pheasant hunt in Dec in Kansas. What do you folks think. I am going to shoot my Model 11 for quail and the new A5 for Pheasant. Is the number 2 a little to heavy for the pheasant. Again this will be in Dec when the birds have there winter feathers.

I think #4 or#5 Bismuth will do a better job on pheasants.

I've been happy with 5s on roosters but 4s would also be a good option. Not sure 2s are necessary. YMMV.
