I was looking for a way to use up a bag of Claybuster WAA 16 wads, and found a recipe using 19.5 gr Universal, cheddite 209 primer, cheddite hull. Specs were
1165 fps @ 7100 psi. I would shoot these in my old 16's, many of which are damascus and/or hammer guns.
The load fits nicely in a 2 1/2" case with great crimp. However I was told there might be a problem with powder migration with that load. I have not been able to get out and shoot them( only loaded up one box). Curious to see if others think that will be a problem.

Apparently it is possible. Might want to throw a box in your vehicle and drive around for a few weeks to see if it affects them.

I've loaded straightwalled hulls,AA Claybusters and Universal with no problems.

I think you are going to be OK.

Some folks gently stretch out the over powder cups before they load those wads.

You may get migration and bloopers,at least I did carrying them around grouse hunting. Cost me 2 grouse Crying or Very sad

I was using 2 3/4 Fedral case but theyre both straight wall. Maybe don't load too many up before you try them

It's a major problem with Longshot, but I am not familiar with the flake size of Universal. I pre flare my Claybuster gas seal cups before using them anyway since I use a lot of Longshot.

Hello WyoCh.

i would appreciate any tips/advice on your technique in forming a preflare on the rim of the overpowder cup of plastic wads.
And if using Longshot in this situation do you make a slight reduction to the powder charge?

If Cheddite hulls and claybuster WAA16 wads were all I had available I definitely would preflare the wad base. I have found that a brief (5 second +_) application to a hot 150 watt light bulb will tighten things up.

Thanks to all that have replied. Looks like some of you have had problems with migration, so I may just load up a few boxes and use them for clays only, where they wont be getting jostled around. I pretty much load only 7/8 oz anymore and lately only 2 1/2". I have alot of RST hulls from Vintage shoots and probably500+ Herters/cheddite that can cut to 2 1/2" with Cliff's nifty little tool.
Have a bag of 300+ RGL's that make great little 7/8 oz loads with 20/28 powder and DR16's, but hate to mess with the settings on the loader now that it makes such nice short shells.
