What’s the difference between the Featherlight and the Deluxe?
And yes, I found a Deluxe, wood a little banged up but clean metal. A beautifully balanced gun.
TIA

Depends on the model Deluxe, but all of them were still a Featherlight with upgraded wood.
1954 the first Deluxe was introduced with a solid rib. It should be stamped RD along with the serial number for Ribbed Deluxe. 1955 the Raybar sight was introduced so it may or may not have a Raybar.
Not many 37RD were made. A 20 ga. 37RD just sold for $2,031 on Gunauction.

After the solid rib the 37RVD (Ribbed Ventilated Deluxe) came out. Not a lot of those were made either especially in 16 ga.
It was choked full so had Briley install thin walls in it and use it for clays. This summer Savage16 was kind enough to run it back and forth to his gunsmith to replace the recoil pad and have Bradley white target beads put on it. Of course I kept the original gear.
The Supreme grade eventually replaced the 37RVD. When they came out with ventilated rib guns in the later 60's there were some 37D (deluxe) made but most of those just had a recoil pad on them compared to the featherlight. |

CI, thanks for the pix. The gun I'm looking at is tagged "deluxe" but looks anything but deluxe, it has the corn cob pump grip, plain barrel, and very ordinary wood, brass bead, plastic butt plate. Are all older M37s "deluxe"?
Thanks,
B. |
