Hi all,

I have been on the hunt for a 16 ga. o/u. Yesterday I found a very nice White Lightning 16 ga. in a local store that someone had just traded in. Although I’m not certain, the gun might be from Browning’s special shot show run in 2018. The gun appears to have had little or no use. The original hang tag said $1999 and the store has it listed for $1499.

I’ve done quite a bit of online research and appreciated finding a Citori 16 I could actually see and handle. I really liked the aesthetics and feel of the gun - l believe it fits me pretty well. Here are a couple points I could use more input on:

1. Weight: I was not able to get the actual weight of the gun. It has 28” barrels (which I want) and Browning lists the weight as 7 lbs 3 oz. Do these guns typically weigh as listed? In any event I will weigh it before actually buying....

2. Drop at comb: listed as 2 3/8”. That is a bit more than guns I’m used to (Beretta 686’s) but the gun lined up well for me when mounted. Does the greater drop at comb allow for the deeper receiver on Citoris?

Thanks,

Doug

I can not answer your specific questions.
I own a 16 ga Citori a Heritage, same gun with some cosmetic differences. And I have owned a couple other 16 ga Citoris.
That a good price, if it’s in VG condition.if it fits you, I’d buy it.

2 3/8” sounds like a mistake, possibly that’s the drop at heel. 1.5” is pretty standard for browning dac.

Agree, that’s a good price. I’d expect the weight to be slightly under seven pounds.

Thanks. My bad the 2 3/8 is the drop at heel and the DAC is 1 1/2.

The White Lightning 16 I had weighed 7# 1oz. and had 1 1/2 " at comb and 2 3/8" at heel with no cast.

Hi - thanks for your post. This gun has the steel receiver not alloy. A friend and I were able to handle the gun at the Scheels store (but couldn’t shoot it). The balance seems quite good to me. I went ahead and bought the gun and am excited about - will try and get some pics posted here soon!

I have the Lightning Feather 16 with the alloy receiver. I don't shoot it well at all, not the weight its the balance point as previously stated. When a couple friends were looking for 16 ga. guns I recommended the White Lightning which they both bought and as very pleased with. I made a deal with my wife that I would sell it to get my Grade III Citori 28" barrels which I like and shoot very well. The other is still in my safe! I think you will be very happy with your choice.

I have a White Lightning 16 gauge I bought new in 2005. 26” barrels. 6 pounds 10.5 oz.

I shoot the gun quite welll but I like the Superposed 20 gauge with 28” barrels better. The only two O/U I have.

FYI I bought my White Lightning new for a little less than that a few years ago. Worth it IMO to have to warranty of a new gun at that price point. The two Achilles heels of the Citori 16gas are firing pins that pit and need replaced, and stocks that crack at the wrist. I have had both problems on mine so far. The pros are excellent barrel regulation and reliable action.

The White Lightning 16ga I bought for my wife several years ago has 28” bbls, and weighs a smidge over 7lbs. Very compfortable for her to shoot a round of clays.

Stop this silly stuff. Did you pick it up? Was it “too heavy”, or “too light” or “ok”? Those are the 3 gun weights.
