Looking for suggestions as to methods to repair the wood where the screw sits. Over time it has become larger and the screw no longer holds the forearm metal tight.

If you have access to a drill press you can enlarge the hole to a dowel rod size like 5/16ths. Additionally if you have a plug cutter I've found that a plug gives longer lasting hold over a dowel. Make sure the fore end is level before you enlarge the old hole. cut the plug to the depth you have and glue. This has worked for me in the past

Epoxy and wood dust mixture, fill the hole and re drill for the old screw. OR....you can find brass inserts for that very application. The insert screws into the existing hole (slightly larger insert than existing threads in hole) and then after the insert is installed, find a proper head size on a machine screw (which screws into the insert). I did this for a blown out screw hole for a recoil pad on a A5 stock...worked wonderfully |
