Just before all this Coronavirus stuff kicked in I went to look at a French 16ga double , it was really nice gun but I knew the guy also had a 16ga hammer gun in as well so i ask to see it too , It was a David Murray Jnr of Brechin, Scotland, with 29" Nitro proofed Damascus barrels, you don't don't see many 16ga guns around here , and now I was looking at two in the one gun shop , so I did the right thing and ended up getting both of them. I gifted French Brun Latrige to my son as his first 16ga , (have to get him signed up here) and I kept the Murray for myself as my first hammer gun , I will see how that goes , but I'm really looking forward to Shooting it when things get back to normal,
Keep safe all WJ. |

WJJ,
Beautiful Hammer gun sir, in fact both are quite nice 16 gauge double guns! Congrats on the purchase of 2 nice guns. Your 16 gauge Hammer Gun looks like a pre war Edward Schilling!

Thanks guys for all the comments glad you think I did the right thing and got them both a good home , my wife who was with me when I went to see them actually suggested I buy both of them but I wasn't hard to talk into it , Nick I don't reload but a have been saving my 16ga empties just incase I have to start ,
About a week after I bought these guns the groups that represent shooters rights here announced there idea for a voluntary ban on lead and single use plastic wads for hunting live quarry over the next 5 years. The only option in 2.5 chamber length at the minute is Bismuth which as you know is expensive, but I'm not too worried mine will probably get carried more that shot on a typical walked up hunt . Hopefully over the next 5 years the cartridge manufacturers will come up with some solutions but who knows, I'm sure in the world we live in now there will be some changes in 5 years , just taking it one day at a time at the minute and looking forward to getting into the woods again for a bit of hunting,
Keep safe all WJ. |

I thought cooper shot loads were available in EU market as a lead alternative. |

16'er as far as I know bismuth is the only current alternative to lead that is available in 2.5" chambered ammo .
Diggory Hadoke has some articles about it on the vintage gun journal which make good reading.
