Our gun club has remained open and they have a FITASC course setup with 4 parcours that are open 6 days a week. (They reset it every 2 weeks.) So I have been able to shoot as much as I want.
I have been generating hulls at a pretty good clip and this is how it is going, as far as hull life.
Winchester/Cheddite low brass, lucky to get one reload out of them before they start to pin hole on the shoulder of the crimp. Some have pin holes after the first firing.
Winchester/Cheddite high brass, 2 - 3 reloads, pin holes and cracks.
Federals 3-4 reloads and they start cracking at the crimp folds.
Cheddite green low brass, on the 4th reload, lost one hull out of 500. The rest look really good.
Remington RGL, nice surprise, on the second and third reloads and I haven't had one split at the crimp folds yet.
All of these are either, 7/8 oz. or 1 oz. loads, using Universal powder, DR-16, SG-16, or CB0078-16 wads (Remington only). Velocities from 1250 to 1350. The 1350 FPS in the Green Cheddite hulls.
Got about 500 RIO's but I haven't reloaded them yet other than a few to check for wad column height. |

Oh yeah, roll crimped Federal hulls that were cut to 2 1/2".
Loved the performance. Hate the way the hulls look after they are fired. Not many that I can roll crimp a second time. |

I only use the rem game load hulls, I have got up to 6 reloads out of them, also use universal powder with claybuster 1 oz wads. |

kennedy756,
It has been a loooonnnngggg time since I had Remington hulls that would reload more than twice before they split at the crimp folds.
If I get six reloads I will probably faint!! |

Thanks for the interesting report, Mark. Definitely keep us informed on the durability of the various hulls. I wonder how much variation there is in batches of the same brand and load of hulls. Some batches of Winchester X-Perts and Super-X's come new in the box with abominable crimps. I wonder if bad factory crimps make them show the holes you mention. Durability-wise, etc. I don't think I can tell the difference between my Win-Cheds and other Cheddites, but my Win-Cheds are from more than 10 years ago, and the original crimps were pretty. Are your Rio's Cheddites? All those Euro hulls, Cheddite, Fiocchi and Martignoni (loaded under the Nobel brand, and maybe B&P) seem to last about the same to me. I think the load makes a difference. Seems like slow-burning powders are harder on hulls, in general. Nice to see the great-reloading RGL, which is often maligned for lack of durability, is surviving as long as most of the other hulls you're using. Since I have recently taken a strong position in Remington wads, I'm looking for all the RGL's I can find.
Cheers! |

I tested the rgl hulls by using one box of 25 once fired hulls over and over again, not mixing with any others. had a few fail after a few reloads, by reload 5 still had 20 good hulls, but after 6 only 5 made it to the seventh reload, then they failed |

Maximum,
The older Win/Cheddites that I have lasted 5 or 6 reloads, kinda like the Cheddite hulls I am using now.
The RIO hulls I have are RIO's. |

Mike,
I use a MEC 9000G for most of these loads.
The load in the Cheddites and Winchesters was
Winchester 209, 22.0 Gr. Universal, DR16 and 7/8 oz.
In The Federals
Fed209A, 20 gr. Universal, SG-16 and 1 oz.
In the RGL's
Winchester 209, 20.0 gr. Universal, CB0078-16 and 7/8 oz.
All pretty standard stuff. Nothing special. Crimp depth was thickness of a dime or about .060" to .065" |

Glad to see someone else is getting several reloads out of the Remington hulls. I get the most reloads out of them. I agree that it depends on the powder used. Don’t have much luck with the fiocchi hulls. I believe the plastic is to thin( ones from BP) |

Mark and Robert seem to have gotten their RGL's from the same source. Glad that you are happy with them. I have always gotten several reloads out of most of them, there are exceptions though.

The Remingtons are from new ammo bought 2 years ago at Dick's. |
