I just traded for an Ithaca 37 featherlight 16ga and I have 2 questions. 1) why is the serial # on the barrel and not the receiver? 2) Can anyone tell me what year this was made? Ser # 4451XX
Gun is basically in as new condition, not refinished, one small scratch on butt, gold bead front sight, ringed forearm, checkered stock.
Any info received would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

The serial # on the older 37s' in on the front of the frame where the barrel fits.

I looked, and low and behold, there it is on front of the receiver. Learn something new every day:)
Thanks,
