Last Dollar, I enjoyed our last visit at Whittington and look forward to the next one.

I have a driver that takes me to the dove hunting section.

Eastern Kansas Opening day was a bust, rained out and had to leave for work before it cleared.
Second day, not very many birds but at least the shell to bird ratio was good, 9 shells, six birds. |

You guys are making me jealous.
I can shoot doves in ND, but they will probably be gone by the time I get there in a week!!
My buddy in Nebraska said that there were none in his favorite spots so far.
What are you folks seeing, early migration or are the doves sticking around. |

The WI dove opener was September 1st and the area I train and work my dogs was loaded with dove the week before the opener. I had a conflict and I didn’t get out but I was out there working my dogs the 2nd and again today. I saw a total of 2 doves during those visits. A couple of days before the opener I was seeing 100+ each time out. I also didn’t see a single dove hunter on the 2nd or today.

Nothing in the North Platte to Broken Bow area. My buddy thinks they have moved south already.

They were flying HIGH and FAST today !
If you hit them dead they hit the ground many yards away. AND you better go right then and retrieve it.

| Missed opener, but got out today for a few hours. Think I’ve been shooting doubles too much, because the Ithaca 37R didn’t seem to knock them down like it used to. Girley had a great time, but only two retrieves. Will try again Monday, and take a double... |

I do not believe they moved out already. We haven't had any weather for them to do so. Now, next tues-thurs, big cold front and rain for couple days, that is what usually will do it, a cold rainy 2-3 days.
What concerned me a bit, is of the birds I shot in the sunflower fields, none had sunflowers in their crops, just weed seeds, one had cracked corn from cattle lot or bird feeder...
Plus, if some birds had moved out, we would have had new ones move in if there was a event to have moved birds.
Not sure what story is around this area, but no one was shooting doves. |

| Dove season opened this afternoon in S.C. 6 hunters, 63 doves. A really nice opening day. 2 of the guys shot the limit. Saw plenty of birds but didnt have enough shooters to cover all of the field. We all shot ALOT and missed ALOT, but a large time was had by all. |

I traveled about 610 miles from N ID to S ID to hunt doves with a friend of mine. I'd never hunted doves in S ID before and we managed to find a fair number of birds in the various places he hunts. Opening day, he and I shot 28 birds and day 2 was a bit more work to get birds...we ended up with 12 birds.
We did have some time to get a short fishing trip in, on the Snake river, and caught 3 nice fat rainbows from about 3-6 pounds. A fun trip overall! |

Our opener was yesterday, there were 2 fields on this property, one had birds and one had peace and relaxation. I was on the latter  . I still was able to kill 2 with my 1967 Sweet and it's new to mt 26' IC barrel. |
