MS,
Been re-reading my GBE collection, right now I am also reading Johnson's Grouse & Woodcock A Gunner's Guide. Frankly it's not as good as I thought it would be. After reading Spiller and GBE, Don L. Johnson needs to take lessons from the Spiller & GBE.
Don is probably a Great Grouse hunter, however his book is kind of boring. This may have something to due with reading both the old pros writing prior to picking up his book.
Re-read John Alden Knights Woodcock book just recently also, man there is a lot of knowledge in that old book from a man who loved to hunt.

Mike,
Spending the 1st week of bird camp in the UP this year, then back to Potter County Pa for more than a month. From what I am being told the Grouse numbers should be up in both places.
If you get out this way drop into the log cabin!

Good luck up there Mike, I will be up mid Oct for 2+ weeks.
Dave, if I recall the Johnson book is more of a how to book, and most of us old grouse hunters already "know how' and want to just read some good literature and wax nostalgic. |
