Has anyone exchanged cheddite 209 primer for win 209 primer in a cheddite hull. I know there is a difference in primer pocket size. I am planning on getting the resizing tool. My load is 21.5 gr universal powder, SG16 wad with 7/8oz lead shot. My reasoning is having a hard time getting Cheddite primers in my area. Thanks for input.

Hello frenchbritt

Welcome on your FIRST posting

NO, you will put your eye out !!

But the smaller winchester primer may not hold well in the pocket.

That being said, if you are using a modern arm, you can give it a try and maybe even send some in for testing.

If you live anywhere near Amarillo, maybe I can trade you primers and solve your issues.

Mike

It has been my experience that Winchester 209's fit tight in Cheddite hulls in both 12 and 16 gauge. I shoot autoloaders predominantly and have never had a WInchester primer either back out or fall out of a Cheddite hull in either gauge. Try it you will notice resistance when inserting a Winchester 209 in a Cheddite hull.

The load you are swapping primers in will be just fine. There are loads using those components but throwing 1 oz. loads that are published on the Hodgdon website, dropping back to 7/8 oz. will be just fine.

I too have not had trouble with the W209s in the Cheddite hulls. Once I put Fiocchi primers in hulls, the W209s were a no go later on.

I've never had a problem with either. As far as files, they used to make two sizes. Now they just make the 209 size is my understanding. Rio's are the only large size. Only use them in Rio hulls.

no trouble with Win 209's in RST and cheddite hulls. Picked up a sleeve of cheddite 209 primers before the price increase due to lack of availability
