This 16 ga Marlin Model 90, F-serial number (1949) is at least 90% condition with only a few very tiny scratches on the 26” barrels and none on the frame. Bright shiny bores that measure .008” and .024 (IC/Imp.Mod.) with a Skeets Bore Gage.

Good wood with a few very shallow scuffs and handling marks. The Ranger Recoil Pad is likely not original since the LOP is 15-1/8” from the front trigger and 14-1/4” from the back trigger. However, based on the dimensions I don’t think the stock has been cut. It weighs 6.6 lb. on my digital kitchen scale.

I bought it used from a friend 7 years ago. The gun appeared to have been shot very little, and I have only shot a couple of rounds of wobble clays with it. It is very tight with the top lever well to the right.

Barkley,

Nice gun, not quite as nice as the one FN16GA showed on this site a few weeks ago, but very nice. And in a nice choke combination for hunting.

The main reason I write it that my 103 II had a similar recoil pad when I bought it in the late 70s. The honeycomb section was falling apart, dry rotted? I never measured the LOP, but in its original condition the gun was way too long for me, so it may have also been >15 inches to the front trigger. My cure for both of these issues was to use a razor blade to slice off the back portion of the pad, discard the honey comb and front red/orange portion of the pad, and glue the back portion to the black spacer. In doing so, I preserved the "Ranger" logo on the back of the pad and reduced the LOP about 3/4", making it just right for me.

Again, nice gun and at a decent price in my opinion. The buyer will be a lucky person IMO!

4Setters, great idea! What adhesive did you use to attach the resized recoil pad?

I did just the opposite; I liked the old Redhead pad on my Parker Trojan but I needed more length and if I just put in a spacer the lines wouldn't be right. The rubber was a little oversize so I was able to make it work. I used a belt sander to get the original base plate off and cemented the rubber to a thicker base plate. I used Barge cement.

Barkley,

Glue? Who knows, that was about 40 years ago. I can't remember what I had for breakfast this morning. Could have been anything from Elmers to J & B Weld epoxy! I suspect I used some type of epoxy; whatever i used, it has held up very well.

A pic of the pad shows the same info as your gun. It is a little buggered up, which mostly occurred prior to my ownership, but functional.

I measured the LOP this morning. With the "shaved-down" pad in place, the front trigger is right at 14 1/2" and the back is 13 1/2. So, the original length was around 15 inches or perhaps slightly more.

I bought my gun off a retired gentleman from IL. It came in a leg of mutton leather gun case. However, the leather was so dry rotted that it was falling apart. I used this case in "man cave" type displays for several years, but after multiple moves associated with youth, I sent it to the trash. Wish that leg of mutton case would have been in as good a shape at the 103 II in it!

Looks like a hot-blue refinish job, and also a wood re-finish.

I don't think so. Hot Blue on a Model 90 Iron frame would have turned a plum color by now.
