Gentlemen:
If all goes as planned, in the morning I will shoot skeet at my local club and then swing by the shipping place to send THREE sets of 16 ga sxs barrels (all 28 inch) to Amherst MA for Mr. Mike Orlen to open up chambers/forcing cones/chokes.
I asked for the following (and expect you all to have many, varied opinions )
I owe a debt of thanks to the good revdocdrew - he helped me mic the barrels when we were in Russell KS a couple of weeks ago (actually, I will fess up, rev miced and I recorded on a Days Inn tablet what he told me to record)
1. LC Smith barrels
right barrel – bore .660, current constriction .020 – desired constriction .005
left barrel – bore .659, current constriction .025 – desired constriction .010
2. Fox Sterlingworth barrels
has 2 9/16 chambers – desired 2 3/4 chambers and lengthen forcing cones
right barrel – bore .660, current constriction .020 – desired constriction .010
left barrel – bore .661, current constriction .034 – desired constriction .017
3. French Guild barrels
has 2 9/16 chambers – desired 2 3/4 chambers and lengthen forcing cones
right barrel – bore .665, current constriction .021 – desired constriction .005
left barrel – bore .665, current constriction .021 – desired constriction .010
Don't forget that I have 30 and 32 inch barrel sets for Ms. Sterlyworth - they will get sk1/sk2 and mod/IM chokings, respectively, after fitting down the road.
I will shoot Ms. Smith and Ms. Guild at skeet mostly and perhaps preserve or lab pointed pheasants .
Ms. Sterlyworth with her three barrel set will become an all-around firearm. I will shoot pictures before fitting/barrel work begins and afterwards too - stay tuned..... |

Great plan Dr 16g (It's SOOOO much fun spending other guy's money )
You might ask Orlen if the French cutie has adequate brl wall thickness for some light honing-it was a bit rough. And turn that pretty wood into a straight grip-what a sweet quail gun that would be
BTW: I put your order in with Huey for the custom Fox 3 brl oak and leather special-what was the # of the University MasterCard again? |

You are too funny Drew - I distincly remember telling you that the State Mastercard could not be used for food, beverages, or field work/testing items
In regards to Ms. Guild, I will speak with Mr. Orlen when he gets her barrels next Tuesday am. I have looked at the stock, but I kind of like the prince-of-wales grip that is on there - time will tell.....
Picked up a Gun Digest (formerly Gun List) at the club this morning - one of first ads I saw was for J. David Yale Restoration Yellow Jacket CO - will call him about Ms. Sterlyworth |

Hey Jeff - no worries. I still have plenty of full choke guns starting with fox model B 16 ga that I shoot league trap with Further I have LF and F chokes for both sissytoris My reasoning for opening up the older sxs's is so that I can shoot lots of low pressure skeet loads and enjoy the guns even more.
Hey Drew - no worries. I'm gonna call Mr. Yale after I let Mr. Fuchs at Labarge Harkness look at Ms. Sterlyworth next week - shopping around to spend your money . Last time I was in Paul's shop there were three sets of in-the-white Parker (sorry 12 ga for you parker-putz types) barrels that had been fitted to one action and were awaiting blueing. Further, I got out Blacks Wings and Clays the other night for something else (of which I cannot remember now ) and low and behold there where two ads for Labarge Harkness and Mr. Fuchs in the gunsmith section.
Barrels sent - supposed to arrive in Amherst at Mr. Orlens on Tuesday am..... |

Hi Dr. 16 gauge.:
I have a very messed with 16 Parker VHE-30" with double triggers. I left the left barrel at 28/1000th and had the right opened to cylinder. I really like the combination. Right barrel is just right for pointed pheasant or quail and the left barrel has some range. I shoot low gun skeet and 5 stand and sporting clays with it too.
