Are Ithaca Model 37R’s that are pre serial number rare? I recently bought one that dates to 1940 in 16 gauge. I know they had there own
Serial number range starting in 1941? Just wondering if this is rare being from 1940 |

Mine was made in 1940 I already know that. It predates the serial number range for the 37R. They also made 37S and 37T before they had there own serial number block. |

They did make a few before the special serial number block. 16 R's are a bit of a rare duck. I have one made in Jan. 1941 with a Polychoke,(MY favorite gun) and a 1958 RD. Which was the last year for the R. In 1959 they went to Vent Rib Deluxe. In my humble opinion the prewar 16 gauge Model 37 is the greatest pumpgun ever made, and also the best handling out of the box shotgun ever built. Your mileage may vary. |

Would a 1940 Ithaca Model 37R in 20 gauge be rare? |
