Nice looking pup. Where are you in north-central PA? Those are my stomping grounds. (Live on the Snyder/Union line.)

My setter pup Nigel was a year old in April. I hunted him half a dozen times last fall but he didn't even start pointing until January. Can't wait for chukar season to start!

I've decided to add my 12 1/2 year old GSP Bode to the string for my fall western bird hunting trip. The old warrior has slowed down considerably, is nearly deaf and has cataracts, but the fire still burns bright. I'll pick and choose the hunts I put him on, but darn it, he's earned a chance at one last hurrah on wild birds before he officially retires. It probably won't be a lot longer before he's gone for good. He's got the desire and his nose still works great and although he can't hear much, he still responds well to the collar tone. Hope I've made a good decision on this.

Riflemeister,

You won't regret the decision. Old dogs deserve to have one nice last hurrah before retirement.

Had a Brit many years ago. He was older and on his last hunt on wild birds, found a Kansas rooster and the other 3 dogs that were hunting honored his point. Pretty good stuff.

May you have that same kind of memory.

You will both know when he's had enough!

Try to take the time for pictures, you won't regret missing a bird for a great picture later on down the road.

Riflemeister,

I will never forget my black Lab’s last retrieve the season before we put her down. She had many health problems by that time, but those ears still perked up when she was searching for that wounded grouse.

It will be good for your soul for the rest of your life.

All the best to you and that great looking dog.

Riflemeister, Absolutely right decision on Bode. Old dogs rule! Hunt him as much as possible this year. Makes me remember when my English Cocker was that age. She could still hunt hard at least a half day then. The next year ,she could barely walk a logging road. Hope you have a great time with him! Very Happy

Long time coming, but finally have a verified utility dog!

Passed our VGP this last weekend, AND with a Prize I !!

Greta is five now, and I couldn't have done this without the the help of good friends and our local training group!

16er,

Congrats on your GVP prize I, fantastic achievement, my GSP Rosie was a pure German Shorthair from Germany, with GVP certification. I know what it took for you to train her for these GVP tests. What was her final test score?

all the best,
