Got a tip a while back on this board about swaging a choke using a MEC collet die. I had a plain 16 gauge 1100 28" full choke barrel with a good bore but with outside pitting issues . Ground the outside pits and cut it off at 23" then using a MEC 20 gauge collect die managed to get .010 to give me a IC choke reblued the barrel and installed a glow worm sight. Nice IC patterns with 1 oz of hard #8 shot. Thanks to the original poster great tip that worked for me. |

what I did - may have been the original idea , was to use a 12ga MEC finish sleeve . That inside taper at the top of the die squeezed in the choke making the swage . Good on a couple guns . IF you do this , take a pointed drill grinder and touch up the inside of the barrel , removing that sharp inside edge . The original 870 I did - gave to Joel in So Dak , split when shooting steel shot . Nick , who is a gunsmith , was not worried about this and we shot a lot of reg lead thru it . I also got .030 choke in it , so it needs some finishing . >010 is the BOMB , good job ! |
