Never heard of Darlow Norwich either, but I have a 16ga JP Sauer that is identical to that one. Shoots well, swings nicely, but it is feather-light and will kick the snot out of you with heavy loads. I shoot light 3/4oz loads in mine.
Darlow Norwich might possibly have just been an importer. |

From Brown's British Gunmakers Vol 2.
Walter Darlow, est 1883 in Bedford.
Became Darlow Ltd and moved to Orford Hill, Norwich ca. 1905 with another address in Cambridge.
In 1976 became Darlow & Co Gunsmiths Ltd at the Norwich address.
Likely he was a retailer or 'smith who ordered guns from one or more Birmingham makers.
Pete
Incidentally, Norwich is the home of Colman's mustard. All you can see for miles in any direction are field after field of golden yellow mustard. The smell is atrocious. |

Hoashooter,
IGC is were I attempt to shoot skeet and occasionally sporting clays. If you come to Indy let me know and we can shoot a round of skeet or two.

chopper and hoashooter: My son lives in Indy and likes to shoot too---we've shot at IGC several times, LOTS of guns new and used there---good component prices as well...if you cook something up some weekend, let me know.... |

Ha, THAT must be why they are known as the "Canaries" as the nickname for the local football team. Too funny, I never knew that.
Incidentally, I have never heard of Norwich being a big gun or hunting area. Funny, some of the biggest areas in the provinces for shotgun development were the coal towns because the Pigeon matches were enormously popular.

A few years ago Norwich had lots of sugar beet fields. Perhaps this is part of their crop rotation like corn, wheat and soybeans would be in my neck of the woods. |
