Now that I'm a member of the "low pressure" group only one question remains: What is the PSI figure that makes a given load low pressure?
From the data I've seen, I would reckon its somewhere under 9000psi.

Is there a particular pressure range i should stay within to go easy on the old 1930 Sterlingworth? How do you know if a gun is nitro proofed? I ask that because some of the load data suggests that the gun be a modern nitro proofed gun.

Jig,
I think your barrel construction is what determines low pressure.
I shoot mostly Damascus and Twist barrel guns. I prefer loads in the 6500 PSI to 7500 PSI range. Lower is always better when in doubt. 12 gauge is easy to keep in the 4K to 5K range. 16 gauge not so many loads available, unless you roll crimp or reduce payload. But I like my 1 oz. in 16 gauge. Very Happy

The fellas on the LCSCA site suggest keeping pressure below 8000 psi.

Yes, but that's for those goofy sidelock guns. Wink

All fluid steel sterlingworths are nitro proved. Honestly, you don't have to worry too much about pressures in that gun. Keep it under 10,500 psi and you'll never have a pressure issue. I suspect its digested a number 11,500 psi loads in its life time. Probably none the worse for it. If you had a black powder proved gun with thin, but shootable, barrels than I would be more incline to tell you to keep it under 7000 psi.

Its important to remember that chamber pressures go up as bore and chamber diameters go down. So finding sub 5000 psi loads is much tougher in 16 bore than in 12 or 10 bore.
