Gentlemen,

As most of you already know I am a big advocate of Classic American double guns.
I have been looking at an old 16 gauge Rem 1894 on Guns.com. Have any of you gentlemen ever had any dealings with Guns.com, what was your experience with them, good or bad? Was the gun you tried to purchase pictured correctly and if any damage was it noted? I have never purchased a gun thru them before, definitely need some input, before purchasing.

all the best,

Dave. Are you sure you have that model number right. Remington hammerless doubles are M1894 or M1900

Anything prior is a hammer gun and from the 1860s through 1880s.

I bought a Mauser 98 sporter from them. They don’t seem to know much about guns, just moving their clients guns quickly. They packed and shipped the gun well and fast.
Sometimes their listings are very reasonable other times way outside market. So could go either way. Good luck

Canvasback,

For some reason the spell checker keeps changing the dates, it should be 1894, I tried to correct it. No luck in the header ar all.

thanks much,

I just went into the site to take a look at it out of curiosity, to see if it was an 1894 or a 1900. Looks to be the field grade 1900, pre-1906. Doesn't look like it's in too bad of shape, however, the barrel dent looks to me to be a bit deeper than implied in the advertisement.

By the way, I have no interest in it, I already have one and I've never purchased a firearm from guns.com.

Pinned stock, and that barrel dent looks pretty "sharp" (bad description) which would worry me more than a shallow indentation. Maybe it's just the photos but the metal finish looks strange to me (kinda like black chrome), and the barrels look almost too good. I just wonder what all's been done to it. Not a lot of money though. I don't know anything about the sellers.

Gentlemen,

Thanks for the input, FTF where did you see the pinned stock mentioned? I looked the gun over and did not see pinning done on the stock of this particular gun.
I was going to pick this gun up as a project gun, I have the ability to remove the small dents in the barrel and figured I might refinish the stocks, if the gun is truly a 1894 gun. Would eventually use the gun as a rainy day Grouse gun, with some RST SpredR shells.

AC,
Thanks for the suggestion, however I am not looking to invest $4,000 in a Box Lock gun.

FTF,
I finally saw the pinning, and Reasearcher01 on another Forum advised me that the gun was actually a 1901 K gun, his advise was to pass on the gun, and I am passing on it., thanks for the input much appreciated.

all the best,

Dave,
I thought of you this past weekend at the Colorado Classic Arms show when I ran into a gentleman who had for sale the most amazing display of Elsies that I’ve ever seen. His name is Don Bullock and if you don’t know him and would like to, let me know and I’ll pass his contact info on to you.

FallCreekFan,

I have been looking to replace my L.C. Smith 16 gauge Hammer Gun that had Nitro/Crown Barrel. I was hoping he might have one for sale. Do you happen to remember if he had one.

all the best,
