High School trap shooting has spread like wildfire across Kansas in the last four years or so. I am an assistant coach for our school's team. I have been very impressed with the way the kids are serious and safe when shooting. Sure they joke around and raz each other when they're not on the line, but when they have the guns they are attentive and safe.

We have had 22 to 25 come out and actively participate each year, including several girls. The state tournament in June took two days to get everyone thru their 100 birds. Small rural schools to large schools participate.

We are fortunate to have our Pheasants Forever chapter furnish the range with two trap houses and help with the ammo & bird costs.

Trap is the only school sport in Kansas that can boast "no injuries".

Great stuff, many of our school districts here in the eastern part of the USA do not have Trap Leagues, getting them started here is tough. Its the negative crap being taught to our children about guns, unfortunately. IMO every high school should have a Trap league & a Rifle League, to teach every boy and girl the proper use of a Rifle & Shotgun.

Many of our schools do have rifle teams however, in fact the high school I graduated from long ago, has won the state championship a few times now. I actually helped start the rifle team when I was in high school, long ago. Unfortunately no Trap team or league.
