Gentlemen.

Safari Outfitters has a real nice L.C. Smith Feather Weight Field Grade SXS double gun, listed on Guns International. 2 3/4" chambers, DT, LOP 14 1/4", 28" barrels, nice Walnut Wood.

GI # 101960987

L.C. Smith 16 gauge Field Grade - COST $1,895.00 gun looks to be in real nice condition, if you need a good SXS double gun to bird hunt with, consider this a good purchase.

all the best,

Pine Creek/Dave

In one spot the ad says 1927 and another 1937.If its a 27,the stated 2 3/4 would be wrong?? Rib looks high for a 27 also.

Gentlemen,
The SN will clear up exactly when the Field Grade was made.
The Ideal Grade gun is over priced however. The Field Grade is a better deal, especially for a bird hunting gun.

all the best,

Possibly. But to spend that amount of $s on a full restoration, why not repair the wood defect by the top tang and clean up the repaired stock finger?

The DOM is 1949 so a late Marlin era gun

Good question. But I'm suspicious in nature anyway...

There's some scraping at the end of the top lever on the top strap, and although it looks like the wood is worn away from the top lever, the scratches in the top strap look new. The case colors are almost too bright, and the bluing too dark, too fresh looking.

The mid bead is bright white, while the front bead is not. Also, in the photos of the receiver some pitting and scratch marks show case colors where it should be scratched off, but other (new?) scratches are bright and do not show any case coloring.

Perhaps the stock repair was post restoration?
