That is really great news!

Bring one of your lovely Smiths and I'll bring mine (we'll be in the minority of domestic guns there of-course, a rather exclusive club these days!). We can have an 1890s Elsie shoot (not a common occurrence anymore!) and catch-up. I'll likely bring a couple of guns (not all domestic) and perhaps some game side-dishes(?).

Fun, fun, fun! I'm guessing (hoping) that I'll be all healed-up by then and raring to go! Any of the rest of the "Texas Contingent" joining you?

The "Wall of Smiths" that I ran into at Mid-South guns a few years ago. I'd be willing to bet most of them are still there.

If you're ever in Wagram, North Carolina, it's a good place to visit.

Oh, and there was a "Wall of Parkers" there as well.

I cleaned and oiled these tubes after shooting it the other day (it shoots pretty great, actually! I even used that 3-position safety at the range, which was quite convenient). The oil I used was "Rangoon Oil" (obtained many years ago from Woodcock Hill). In theory, this oil (developed by the British Military?) provides a protective finish on metals to prevent rust (oxidation). It seems to have had the effect of altering the color on these tubes to a more grey (than olive/brown) tone now, which is fine. Background lighting seems to affect this as well, but in natural light they appear to be more grey.

Also, Dr. Drew (over on the LC Smith webpage) has identified these barrels further as "Angularly Laminated" English-supplied (Birmingham) tubes and evidently...they're not commonly encountered. These older guns are full of surprises, eh?

Real nice old American Classic with Brit barrels. I would use RST real light shells in her, no modern Nitro stuff. Way cool gun for sure! Nice gun with the 3 position safety, a great piece of engineering design by L.C. Smith. Those barrels are very rare for sure on a L.C. Smith double gun, yours are only the 2nd set of those barrels I have ever seen on a Smith double gun. I do wonder how many of them were really made for L.C. Smith guns.

I have read that early-on (in Houchin's book) that many of these guns were "one-off" (I've been told that elsewhere as well) and this one very-well might be one of them. Standard barrels on the first Quality 1 guns were evidently "Twist". British laminated steel tubes are (usually) up to 75% steel, making them argueably stronger than many of the true "Damascus" tubes (although I think Damascus is much prettier, certainly in "black & white"). Oh well, pretty is good but functional is better in my estimation. The bushed-firing pins, the early stop-check extractors, the transitionally-shaped (i.e."filed") receiver, and the English walnut stock all add-up to a better-than-average entry-level gun (IMHO) and I'm well-pleased with it. It could-have been a pig-in-a-poke just as easily. It was a good gamble this time, thankfully.
