| Looking for recommendations on a steel proof 16 sxs. Places I hunt only allow non toxic shells. I am hoping the bristol isn't my only option as I want one under 6.5lbs. |

Have been looking at the Tristar Bristoil Silver 16 gauge double gun, the gun seems to be a good purchase, Chrome lined for steel shot, 5 screw in flush Beretta type chokes, SST and top tag safety. However the gun is a little heavy for my Grouse hunting needs, at over 7 lbs in reality, not the 6.6 lbs the gun is advertised at. Still deciding whether to purchase the gun or not.

| Using an old Parker is a lot of the enjoyment in bird hunting so when in No-Tox areas I use shells that I've handloaded with one of the softer lead-free shots. |

I have to admit the FAIR Side is a real nice modern gun, however I am like Americanmeet when it come to Classic American made double guns, they really make my bird hunting very enjoyable. My Parker guns are all gone now, traded on Graded L.C. Smith guns. I have been eyeing a couple Parker 16 gauge guns, to have a couple back in my Grouse gun collection. Have also been looking at a Bristol Silver 16 for shooting steel shot. The Bismuth for my Classic guns has definitely gotten expensive, although I am not using more than a Box or so each season for Woodies. I do definitely need a 16 gauge modern gun for steel shot, don't have one right now, been using my modern 28 gauge L.C. Smith made by Zabala most of the time for shooting steel shot. Would like a 16 gauge gun that handles steel shot also.

Well I agree Dave but the op is looking for a modern gun he can use for steel shot. I myself am not a fan of most of the Turkish offerings. The Dickinson’s are a very nice gun but I had two of them and had nothing but problems. I’ve been through the list of most sxs manufacturers and I must say the FAIR Iside cannot be beat in its price range. To get a new gun of higher quality one needs to spend thousands of dollars more. |

I have a 16 ga RFM from Upland Gun Company. If anyone can tell me what the Italian steel proof mark looks like, I can verify that info one way or another. |

I have a 16 ga RFM from Upland Gun Company. If anyone can tell me what the Italian steel proof mark looks like, I can verify that info one way or another.

The receivers on the 12 and 16 are not the same size. Very close but not the same, fences are slightly different sizes. Couple of years ago 5 of us camping at the Duluth Double Gun shoot all had Isides including a 12 and everyone had a 16. I measured them and we all tried swapping barrels. Even the 16 ga. barrels didn't swap between guns, they must be hand struck.
Which says a lot. The FAIR Over Unders barrels swap without fitting, usually as they are CNC produced. My 16 ga. FAIR made NEA 500 30" was a drop in replacement.
According to IFG the only Iside receivers that are the same are the 28 and 410 and after that evening at Duluth I'm going with they are correct.
FAIR started out making choke tubes and still do, Technichoke. The Isides take Technichoke XP50 flush tubes and according to the website they are steel proofed.

Not sure I would risk it though unless IFG said the 16 ga. Isides were steel proofed. The Iside 16 ga. lack European steel proof marks. I don't shoot steel though and have no plans to ever shoot it again so haven't dove too deep into it. |
