This is tangential to the other thread about 16 weights, which got me to thinking, how many of us actually shoot sub-6lb 16's? The 16 mantra of "carries like a 20, hits like a 12" is best epitomized by light 16's, yet when I think back over the last 20 years and all the 16's I've owned and used, I actually can't think of any that were under 6lbs. I recently rectified that by picking up a sweet little 5.11lb scalloped Belgian boxlock, which I'm customizing into the ultimate chukar gun. Short barrels, sling swivels for those long 5 mile walks back to the truck, factory 2.75" chambers, choked im/xf, twin ivory beads, engraved acanthus leaf fences. I'll post pics here later when it's further along. It's such a quick, delightful little thing, fits like a glove, and it truly makes me wonder why I'm so late to the light 16 party. Let's see your sub-6lb 16's. Cheers!

All my Charles Daly 16ga guns are sub 6lbs. These guns spoil me to carry. I shoot them well.

5#7oz 28"
5#8oz 26"
5#12oz 28"

I have a couple 6# even sxs

One Belgian 6#4oz with 30" barrels

all the best,

Lightest 16 I have ever owned was 5lbs 9oz German Guild triggerplate action whose barrel walls were thinner than I cared to live with.

Dave:

It's nice to see LC Smith guns that are not overly heavy for their gauge. Most of the ones I've personally encountered (if not all) were, and then egregiously so.

It was made in 1912

Bobbys Linders are truly gorgeous. I was lucky enough to see and hold one at his SD house.

Gentlemen,
Although I like the Bristol Silver 16 gauge that I just purchased, it is not a light 16 gauge gun at 6.9 empty or 6.10 oz with shells or Snap Caps. I was hoping for a lighter modern gun, it will be fine for Pheasant hunting and shooting Steel Shot, but unfortunately it's not a light 16 gauge double gun to carry on the Grouse mountains. I did just order the Bristol Silver 28, for both our dog training and Grouse & Woodcock hunting. I am hoping the gun comes in at more the advertised weight of 5.4lbs,
we will see when it arrives at my FFL dealer.

all the best,

Pine Creek/Dave

Wow, Purple16, you certainly win the prettiest lightest 16 thus far, wow...the lightest in my stockade....unknown maker, #5.7, 26.75" XF/F, 65mm/2.6", plain/no rib notched action body and front bead, probably shine on a Chucker hunt....
