I just looked at a 16ga. 11-48B grade at a local shop. It has real nice wood and the blueing is real nice too. Plain I/C barrel. Is this a fairly rare gun/choke combo? I cant really find anything similar (B gade) on G.A. or Gunbroker. Asking price $350 what do you guys think?

I'd buy it in a heartbeat.... most guys shot Mods and Fulls back then, so yes, scarcer than most, BUT the most useful choke, the price is very reasonable....

Ditto what Britgun said. B grades are fairly rare, and in a 16, real rare. And the price isn't bad for a field grade in that condition much less a B grade.

Thanks for the reply! It didn't really seem like a bad deal. I recently bought a older 1100 16ga in very nice cond. from the same place and now I'm kinda hooked. This same place also has another 16ga 11-48 with vent rib (full) the blueing is quite nice but the wood on the stock has some slight peeling. asking $450 that gun did'nt seem like quite as good of a buy. I'm not sure if they would switch barrels on the two guns maybe it would be best to leave them both original.

...keep them original, if you haven't shot IC much, you'll be amazed at what you hit out far, plus makes you way better in close.... I'd definately get the B grade gun and shoot it, I think you will be tickled pink!

warm regards, have fun, and let us know what you decide, but that is a screamin good deal on that first one you told us about....

Hi, skeet16 if you are going to get hooked on this 16ga thing you have to learn how to stay under the wife radar. First don't store your guns where the wife can see them. A gun safe comes in handy, do not give her the combo. Learn how to sneak a new gun in the house without her knowing it. It's unlikely she can tell a 1100 from a 11-48 so unless she sees them together your OK. After you get to many guns to hide tell her a buddy gave you some guns he didn't use anymore. If you take your son shooting or hunting read him the riot act about ever telling mom about a new gun. Remember what Clinton told the Secret Service, boys there's going to be a whole lot of things we don't tell Mrs. Clinton. However beware son can use this against you. Almost forgot you must start a secret gun money stash, you must hide it where wife can't find it. A good place is that gun safe she doesn't have the combo to.

Every time I buy a new gun, I just get the wife a new pair of shoes. Kinda like trading obsessions. But be careful, when you get into the higher end guns she'll somehow know and you'll need to look at the higher end shoes.

This can take some time to develop, but I have a separate account for all my toys. It evolved from my other obsession, bamboo flyrods. You see, I started restoring rods and found that after a while I was able to upgrade just by using the profits from restorations. Before I knew it I had a stable of pretty nice bamboo rods...and all paid for through careful trading and money I had made. I found (to my surprise) that I was willing to pay a lot of money for "just toys", because it was money that was not a part of "our" budget. Bottom line:

1. No grief from spousal unit.

2. No need to reciprocate in kind to spousal unit.

3. Buy with clear conscience.

4. Sleep at night.

While this method isn't near as exiting as the afore mentioned routines, it allows the guilt ridden souls like yours truly to engage in a hobby with no strings attached.

What differs a B grade from a field grade or standard grade?

I fish quite a few tournaments in the summer, so I do have experience in the getting it out of the truck and hidden before mama see's it game. In all honesty she is great and doesn't say a whole lot. But this is the forth gun I've bought this year 2 16ga 1100's a 12ga white lightning feather and this 11-48, oh wait we just started a new year. So this is only the first! As far as the difference in the b-grade vs. the field grade, I think the only difference is the wood (b-grade being nicer) and the b stamped on the reciever. But I'm not an expert.
