Howdy!

Just wondering if anyone has any insight into using 20/28 in the 16 ga. I ask purely out of curiosity, as I have other powders I use for the 16, and I have 20 ga's for the 20/28.

What I'd really like to do is get it all down to just a couple powders for all the guages/calibers. But instead, I buy a pound here and a pound there of other ones... oh well.

Thanks

20/28 is my main powder for 16. I do use 700x to save on my supply for 20/28. It seems my patterns are much more dense on my longer yardage on shootoffs at trap games.

Before I figured that one out and started testing, I have a vague recollectiion of someone using 20/28 in Herters, but with the 7/8 oz Claybuster wads. I found that left too much space in the hull, requiring filler.

But if we're not going to get any more DR16's . . .
Given that I have a lot of Herters hulls, does anyone have a recipe they use with the Claybuster wads and 20/28. Looks like I'm going to have to play the filler game again.
Thanks.

If I recall, Herter's old hulls were straightwall Chedites and the CB078-16 wad is for tapered hulls. Someone with more knowledge on the subject will probably come along soon to advise what to do.

Alliant 20/28 will be one of the better all around powders for 16 ga, if you can swallow the bill. It’s almost twice the cost of Hodgdon 700X which is better suited for 7/8 than 20/28. The latter will be preferable for 1 oz and up.

I’ve been told Alliant moved its production to Canada and their prices have gone through the roof. Maybe someone there forgot to convert $CAN to $US.

Thanks.

I use a filler inside bottom of wad for my 1oz load. 25 mec bushing gives me 20 grs of 20/28 . I do use 26 bushing for my shootoff in the games. Many times 20 yards back of the 27 yrd pad.
I do modify my claybuster wad with a flare over powder cup to seal off powder migration.
