Tried this originally because it was readily avail and inexpensive . Didn't have high expectations - do not generally like ball powder ... However , this and WSF have been delightful . For lite 12ga . No data for 16 anywhere for PP ! Just for s-a-g's , tried a couple loads with my go to fast powder load for 16ga . 14Grns PP , DR , Chedd pr , and my bar drops 365grns shot - rem case . Could not tell these from any orher of my similar target loads , and the 11-48 dropped all shot empties on the ground in 1 pile . Starting to like this stuff even more ! Should have grabbed another 8#er when they were 191 free HM at Powder Valley . I think this would be an OK place to dip your toe in for 3/4 loads etc . Will probably send some to Precision once I get a few more shots under my belt , Waiting for a facial from skin cancer to get better B4 shooting anything more . (not a big deal !)

Sounds like a good fit for the lighter weight loads, not surprised it doesn't have data available as the components are generally geared towards 1oz and greater payloads. Even here where we concentrate 16ga reloaders, we've got people who get agitated about faster powders being unsuitable. Yes, unsuitable for 1oz at high speeds, but not for lighter rounds or even some 1oz at 1100fps or so.

most of my shooting is at the speed of skeet ! That can be about 1150 fps , where I get my best hits . Right now , I'm not allowing myself to fully shoot my guns due to the face rebuild , so the best I can test at is how the 11-48 reacts . I still have 1200 DR's , so I can fit the loads nicely in the Rems . When I get to sending them out for testing , I'll probably try my Dr loads , and maybe another 6 With Feds and G wads to compare and get a bigger base .... my SX-1 uses the same Powder at 16 grns , and same shot weight - pops them out nicely with good hits . That gun has drilled out gas ports although I have a 2nd barrel with reg holes - that one I do have to check .

Davis, I was curious how your work on Perfect Pattern was coming together. I’ve been looking at grabbing some up for 12 gauge sporting, but was really hoping it was showing signs of success for 16 gauge. Your load seemed a solid choice.

I would have sent some out by now , but being in NY , can't find a way to send them out . Post Office - no way ! ... Fed Ex - no way ! ... UPS - can't get a real answer from any of the satellite offices . Can't receive ammo without a State Police background check which can take up to 3 weeks ! You get the idea . One would think no one would give a cr++ about sending stuff out . There is even legislation working to fine , say , PA gun shops selling to NY res without a background check there !! So getting tested isn't easy .

Davis,

Sorry to hear that. I’m going to see about grabbing up 8lbs with the assumption it will be an option for both 12 and 16. I found a local (well 30 minutes away) that expects win 209 and Perfect Pattern in this week. I’ve been holding out to find out if the gun club by the house has any buy-in programs for powder, primers, or shot.

Just wondering how this is going. Any success with this powder or getting loads tested?

Hate to be that guy, but I can almost guarantee that load is over SAAMI max pressure. PP is a really fast powder, comparable to xtra-lite. It's not going to blow your gun up, but probably more wear on the action etc. I'd look at High gun/Titegroup for that hull/wad and payload combo, probably start at about 13 grains or so until I got close to 1150-1200 fps. Then have it pressure tested (Precision, Tom Armbrust). IIRC, UPS is the only way to send loaded ammo.

I now have the answer right in front of my nose ! I was at a UPS hub yesterday and they confirmed I can NOT send ammo for testing . Has to go thru a major hub , or , an FFL . Duh ! Woody402 will be getting a couple loads to send out in the next wk or 2 . Since i was AR a major hub , the FFL is easy . the 2 probable loads will be : fed cases , chedd wads , either 13.5 or 14 grns PP , one load will be DR wad and the other will be Herters wad and 28ga filler (maybe, if needed) , and either 3/4 or 7/8 shot .... I'll let ya'all know - need some data pts !!

16gaDavis,

The UPS Store is not supposed to take ammo or anything else that requires a limited quantity sticker, but I found one that would in my travels.

UPS Customer Centers, which are normally located somewhere in a UPS distribution center, will take ammunition, at least in states that aren't run by communists. Heck even in Connecticut the UPS Customer Centers will take ammo.

the chase went like this yesterday ; 1st stop (closest) was a UPS drop off . She weighed my guitar and when questioned - said the ammo could be sent thru a dist center ... only 5 mi., so headed there . Guitar got weighed and boxed and response to the ammo question was : can be sent thru a dist center(which I was at !) . Rochester and Syracuse are closest . However , as I was picking up my stuff , he mentioned that my FFL was licensed and could send it right out ! BOING !!

the loads as boxed and sent are : Fed case , Chedd primers , 13.6 Perfect pattern , 373.4 grns #9 shot , one load uses old Herters wads with 28ga filler , and the other uses a DR16 wad . This load fits nicely and is the target load . The Herters wad load is just trying to make a dent in the 1800 wads i still have .... let you know when I get the ballistics . ( this is just what the droppers drop , so this is what I went with ,no specific science)

Interesting thread.....appreciate your effort. Looking forward to your results.

I also have a stash of Herter's wads.
