In the nearly 40 years we have lived in this house in Leavenworth, WA we have had black bears, cougars, raccoons, squirrels, countless deer as well as song birds and several variations of hawks in our yard- but this morning two wild turkeys- I don't know which variety they were, walked into our yard and settled down under a couple trees. After scratching for some food moved on. It wasn't many years ago that turkeys were very rare in WA- but now they seem well established.

Not sure how the numbers are a bit farther west in WA, but where my brother lives, in Newman Lake, just across the ID border, they're thick!

WA has three species of wild turkeys, Merriam’s, Rio Grande and Eastern. They can be hunted statewide. The bulk are found in NE and SE and South Central counties. There are spring and fall seasons and up to 7 birds can be taken if you hunt both seasons and designated areas. They are pests in some residential areas.

Appears the word is out: three days ago there were two hens walking through the yard. two days ago there were five walking through the yard across the street- then yesterday there was a flock of 14 waling through our yard. If I want to go turkey hunting I won't have to drive 200 miles to Kettle Falls.
