I was frustrated by the leaky waterproofing in my goretex hat, so I took matters into my own hand. I sprayed a fabric hat with heavy duty corrosion inhibitor, same as I use for long term gun storage. It’s like a waxy spray grease. Result: Totally waterproof. It smells pretty strong for the first couple weeks, as one should expect, I suppose. But for urgent or heavy duty waterproofing needs, it seems to do the job pretty well, much easier to use than Otterwax and the like.

I gave up on Gore-Tex years ago. In boots I stick with leather (no material) and Obenlands products. For clothing when it's cold and rainy my preference is Filson wool. Guess that makes me old. |
