OMV is another reloading brand from Italy which is of the same quality as GAEP, and supply the same items. Anyway......
I have a decent supply of 16 gauge hulls that have cracked and split at the crimp folds. I got to thinking that they would be a good source for hunting hulls, shortened and roll crimped. I tried to purchase the GAEP brand of crimping head but the shipping was ridiculous from Italy. I tried fleabay and the shipping doubled the price of the items I wanted. I am not a BPI fan but I ended up getting the OMV brand crimping head from them. (I have to say that the person on the phone knew his stuff and was very nice to deal with, shipped fast, etc.)
I haven't roll crimped any loads yet, but I did use the tool to finish crimp on some fold crimped hulls. I have no idea, if it actually helps ballistics, but it definitely gives the loads a nicely formed shoulder radius and cleans up the looks a bit.
Here are some before and after pics, the before crimps are as they come off my Sizemaster, with as much cam as I can use without the hulls crushing above the metal head.
Before:
After:
Cleans them up a bit. The crimp depth is .072" after using the finisher. My original crimp depth is .065".
I tried some RGL's and they finished up nicely also, but the black crimps don't show up well in my pics.
I will do some more with the crimper and post some pics. |

Those look damn good Mark. I would like to know if there is a difference in SD/EV. You will like the roll crimped loads. I have tried lots of different crimpers and I like the OMV/Gaep the best. |

When I get chance I will load up 20 hulls. 10 just as they come off the Sizemaster and 10 after I finish crimp them....Honestly I really don't care if they are better or not. I just like the look of the finished shells. For my hunting shells it is worth the extra time just to have them look nice.
This is all your fault RGuill96971. |

I have been using a geap crimper for a while on my hunting loads
with great results then i discovered the Ribassatore TOOL and the geap pre crimper
upped the game. The pre crimper is at a steeper angle and the Ribassatore sets the under tuck before the final crimp these reloads come out fantastic so much so i find my self wandering around the field just staring at them as they a a thing of beauty
I have the pre crimp and Ribassatore TOOL set up in a old versa mec 700 and the final crimp in drill press Life is to short to shoot ugly reloads |

I HAVE DOING THIS FOR YEARS WITH ALL MY HUNTING ( AND NEW HULLS ) LOADS.
SURE GIVES ME CONFIDENCE THAT THEY WILL FEED IN MY AUTOS.
I JUST SET MY FINAL CRIMP FOR ABOUT .055 AND THE FINISH THEM OFF WITH THE GEAP . |

what ya'all said !! Been finishing the shells with my MeCS by putting washers on the finish crimp platform and shoving the shells up in there . It's amazing how that tiny unfinished crimp edge can find an extractor groove , etc !! |
