Came across some 20/28, never used it for 16ga loads before. Wondering if anyone has experience with it? I’d like to stick with my usual cheddite hull/primer, sg16 wad, 1oz anywhere from 1150-1250fps.

Saw a few loads on the sheets but the source was BPI….said 20gr with above components for 1,250fps/8,400 psi.

Not always comfortable with their load data from what I read so thought I’d ask.

Although I normally don't feel comfortable sharing BPI generated data, these from the spread sheets are relatively low in stated PSI, so, figuring even if they are "out in left field" PSI wise, w/~3k of head room, feel they are reasonably "safe" to share....use at your own discretion for at the very least... reference.....

Adding; it seems to me, since The Cumugion Jr has taken the wheel, the newer/recent data coming from BPI seems more realistic, IMO. But still skeptical....

Putz463, How is the stack height/crimps if you go down to 18-19 grains to get to about 2 1/2 dram/1165fps?

If you have 20/28 on hand your lucky for awhile. I've been using it for long time now. Psi is great with any of the loads mentioned. Problem now is cost. Sense 20/28 has become very popular now the price is going overboard out of the market. Pushing close to 400.00$ now for 8 ibs. Gun club I mainly shoot at 20/28 was 370.00. I've got 3- 8 lbers I bought last year for 220.00. Already been substituting with 700x, High gun, just to stretch out my 20/28 for few more years if I'm able.

I use one of BPI's 1oz loads, almost certainly one of the ones posted above. 20/28 was available in my area around the time Universal dried up so I started using it. It works great for me. That said, Alliant powder is significantly more expensive than other brands so I'm looking for something else gain. I picked up 8lb of Longshot yesterday for 33/lb compared to 57/lb for 20/28 at the same store.

There was a great 7/8 oz low pressure load in the spreadsheets that I will have to look up the particulars. RGL hulls, DR16 wad, and ww or cheddite 209 primer. Also great with 3/4 oz, around 16gr 20/28

Killed many grouse with this load and lots of clays, used mainly in my vintage guns even damascus 2 1/2", with its low pressure and RGLs are usually a little shorter in length to begin with.

20/28 15.5 gr
7/8 oz lead
ched 209 1119 fps @ 6160 psi
win 209 1105 fps @ 5760 psi

Got this load per Flycatcher on the old spreadsheets.
Used by alot of friends at vintage gun shoots--you will love the minimum recoil. One very good shooter uses this but drops to 3/4 oz loads. Main drawback is getting the 20/28--I still have 11 lbs, and the availability of the DR16 wad

3bird - have you ever loaded this in an actual 2.5” hull? Imagine the stack may be too high?

No, only in RGL's which are generally a little shorter to begin with, and with it's low pressure and mild velocity, I shoot it without worry in my 2 1/2" chambered guns-- but I mainly do load 2 1/2" cheddites anymore using Universal or 7625.
