I load the black rem game load hull, made by rem. Looking for powder suggestions, 1 oz shot, claybuster wad and what ever primer I can find, now using cheddite. I used Universal for years and love it, after it dried up I found a keg of WSF, okay but dirtier, now almost out, what have you found that works and is available? I only shoot trap.

I have used a lot of 572 since universal had been missing. I load 18gr and it works fine.

Recently found some of an old favorite, Herco. Published Lymans 5th, IMO mimics the original RGL load;

Rem 16, 1oz, Herco 20.0, Rem 209P, Rem SP-16, 1253, 10,600

I swap in Win or Ched209's, works great as a long range target load in my guns.

And comparing against other similar published Herco loads employing the WAA-16 or CB clone wads the specs are basically the same.

I have read the 572 does not do well in cold weather

I shoot it year round here in Kansas with no problems. I load my 10ga target loads with it as well as 16ga and even 28ga. The people that say it is not good in cold weather leave their ammo out in below freezing temperatures for days at a time. I have found that is not good with any powder.

That is untrue Byron concerning 572 and cold temps. My ammo is kept in a garage that never goes below 50 degrees. Yet if I expose the ammo using 572 to temps below freezing for any amount of time, as in a 3 - 4 hour hunt, the performance gets erratic and drops off severely.....and I don't load anemic ammo.

Using the data for 572 and Federal 209A primers helps, but it doesn't really solve the cold temps problems, unless you use 1 1/8 oz. loads with the most powder, and even then it isn't stellar. I have 4 lbs. of W572 and if I could trade it for Unique, Universal or some N320, I would be a lot happier.

kennnedy756,

I have been down the same road and I have switched to N320.

I have seen people with your spelling issue for the past sixty years. Ninety percent of the people that see my name in print misspelled it when the wrote it or mis-pronounced it when spoken. Shows that the educations system in this country is lacking. In public when someone sees my name in print and pronounces it correctly I thank them.
