Since our old standard powders are scarce to non-existent, I picked up some 20/28 when I spotted it in a store. 16 ga data is pretty scarce other than bpi and there’s plenty of skepticism on them. Searching the web I’ve seen some posts on it but very little tested data. Just wondering if anyone has sent loads off for testing. Thinking it might be good for lower pressure loads
My son recently picked up a German SxS that appears to have been made before 1915, but we haven’t researched the markings fully. It is marked with the Nitro proof stamp so I’m assuming loads under maybe 9k psi might be ok. |

Old 270,
I've been using it for a few years now and love it. Very versatile. Their are published loads for the 16. But I settled on 21 grains that averaged 1248 fps over several loads I tested. This is my trap load for shooting games. The pressure is lower than most but can't recall. I lost my info I had but if yor looking for low pressure the 19 gr start with has very little recoil. Lucky I pushed 3, 8 lbers before the crazy price jump from 220$ to almost 400$. Price is scam but it's out their if your willing to pay the price. However their are published loads for 20/28. Just got to dig for them. Old 16 |

If it's Nitro Proofed; wouldn't that be to the modern 11.5k standard? |

The lack of maker marking or serial number makes me think it’s pre 1915. It is nitro stamped for use with smokeless powder, but I don’t know the pressure limit for that era. Chambers have been lengthened to 2.75; and the stock fits me like a glove so it has had some work done on it. The action appears to of started out as a Sauer and sons (spelling?) forging. |

Unique and 20/28 have the same burn rate. They have different densities, 20/28 being more dense, so are not equivalent in volume for a given weight. You can use the same recipes for both by weight for the same pressure and velocity, all else being equal. |
