Howdy the forum,
I have been using the BPI SG16 wad, and noticed that I was getting leading in my barrel.
So, I filled the SG16 shot cup with #7.5 lead and weighed what it held. My scale said it was only about 5/8 oz.
That is a long way from 1 oz, and explains why about 1/3 of the shot sits above the cup unprotected.
If I want a 16ga wad that really holds 1 oz, what should I use? I have mostly Federal purple and Remington black hulls.
As ususal, any and all advice appreciated,
HHH |

Use the Remington R-16 wad. Or the SP-16 wad and some filler. |

Dont' forget that you can load shot a bit higher than the topof the shotcup. And, don't forget about setback forces at ignition where the shot is propelled backward (where first shot deformation can occurr). Which depending upon how tight of pattern youre after, is why one may choose hard, or soft shot. I'm assuming the only reason you are concerned about wad capacity is for a tighter pattern. But why? what's the application?
SG16 is 7/8 - 1oz wad. You might try the z16 which bridges the gap between the Sg16 And MM wad for longer range shooting. |

I use the SG-16 wad allot. But if you want all your shot contained within the shot cup, the R-16 or SP-16 is the way to go. Especially with the Remington Black hull. Just my opinion, which has been known to be off the wall. |

If you use the R-16 or SP-16 in a straight walled hull, I suggest you cut the hull down to accommodate the shorter wad/shot column. Otherwise you have to add filler to bring the wad column up for a good crimp. Obviously, it would defeat the purpose of using the Rem wad if you put the filler in the shot cup.
By the by--I believe the R-16 holds app. 7/8 oz of shot within its petals while the SP-16 carries app. 1 oz in the shotcup. The rest rides above it too. |

Hi Dave:
The TC-16 in the Cheddite hull holds an ounce without the shot sticking out over the top. I use the TC 16 almost exclusively. I still get some lead fouling though.
Best,
