I'm a dedicated bird hunter on the edge of retirement. I wanted to have a choice of .410, 28, 20, 16 and 12 in the gun safe when I finally retire so I got permission from the wife/accountant to purchase two guns. I was going to get a .410 and a 28 gauge to fill-in the collection since I already had two 12 gauges, a 16 and a 20 gauge. I have 12 gauge in O/U and SxS. The 20 is a lightweight SxS and the 16 is a 1956 Sweet Sixteen with a family history. I love the 16.
It's become my "September" gun. Loaded with Bismuth for teal, and #7½'s lead for doves. I love my 16 and didn't feel a need to get another one.
With 2-gun approval from Accounting still hot in my pocket, I visited my favorite purveyor of sporting arms. I found the perfect .410. A Browning White Satin. Just thinking about it puts a smile on my face, but I couldn't find a28 that I liked.
On the way to the checkout counter with my one gun, I walked pasted a dark-hued, ornately finished beauty. I shouldn't have but I made eye contact with her. Like a family picking a puppy at the pound, I asked "what about that one?" pointing to the quiet, unassuming gun on the shelf.
It's a limited edition Browning Hunter Deluxe, I was told. They made it for the 2024 Shot Show. It's got Grade III/IV wood, pheasant and grouse on the sides. Lastly, along with the word "Citori", the bottom plate has a woodcock. This is not what I came here for..."it only comes in 16 gauge", the attendant told me.
I pride myself based on age, schooling, and work experience, to never make irrational, emotional decisions...yet, I did just that and blew my gun budget on a gun I wasn't looking for...
When I got home that evening after filling out all the paperwork, I found the 16 Gauge Society and requested to join.
So here I am...

That’s a nice acquisition you made.
I have a Grade III citori in 16 ga. It’s a great gun and accounted for a few doves earlier this week. |

| Welcome aboard! Not unlike the boxes of shells with the pictures of what they're designed to be used for... just a little different price point. |

| Welcome, and very nice acquisition. I wouldn't beat yourself up over breaking form...the scarcity of the item that you came home with is such that you may not see another for some time. These guns are getting older, harder to find and the folks that have them have a tendency to hang on to them - so as far as I'm concerned unless it's going to throw you on the street or take food from your belly the time to buy it is when you see it. |

You're in the wrong place hahaha
Very nice find, and you're on your way to a fine collection. Once the 16 gauge bug bites, it's an itch that no amount of scratching will make go away, although getting another 16 helps for a bit. |
