A fellow club member has come across a 16 ga N R Davis SxS in an estate clearance. Per his report, it is 1900s vintage, steel barrel (not damascus), likely 2 1/2” chamber, in shootable but tired and well worn condition. He mentioned traces of case colors remaining. Transaction costs might well amount to substantial portion of sale proceeds, i.e. name your price. Let me know if any interest exists; none on my part at this moment. Otherwise it may end up in a LGS sale bin somewhere.
Thanks,
B. |

| My 1st and one of my few Doubles is an old NR DAvis 16 . Cost me 29 bucks 50yrs ago ! Right barrel - spot on , left barrel - high and inside ! Eventually chopped the barrels off 1 1/2" and spot on IC's . That gun made all the trips to SoDak , and shoot a pile of Pheas here . Problem was , many 2 3/4 shells thru that 2 1/2 gun , and right barrel has about a 14ga chamber . Our Byrdog took that gun on as a challenge , and best we could come up with is tape or a thin rubber ring at the chamber to tighten it up . Still goes of most of the time with the mods .... bottom line is , most of those old doubles wouldn't go thru what mine has , and it is still my go to guy .... I'd grab that one , load some low pressure loads like my PP loads in shorter shells , and shoot it till it fades in to the sunset - like a fave dog !! |
