Edited to add red dot to title as it is same as Promo, loaded by weight.
Savage16 and I were chatting PM, I figured this question was good for keeping the board active!

Well, I have seen 1 promo recipe, tested by Arbrust for Putz:
16ga 2.75" Cheddite Win209
Promo14.0gn SG16 wad 13/16oz 355.0gn Lead
7,240psi 1,114fps FOLD
from SGW Putz463 Tom Arbrust test, saw test sheet: OK to useTom Arbrust test

With just 7200psi, I would try it with 7/8oz instead of 355 and feel ok until I got it tested. You have or seen any other Promo recipes? My 16ga.com spreadsheets are all on old computer...

It is my understanding and how I employ Promo in loads is that it is equivalent by WEIGHT (not volume) with RedDot. With the several recipes I've put together and tested along the way prove this rule of thumb out.

FWIW; why I chose such an odd 355g 13/16oz payload is basically efficiency. For target shooting I look toward pellet count in the low/mid 300's, 310-340, and pellet size matching the season. Short range in warm months #9 cold #8.5, long range warm #8 cold #7.5. so, after letting payload be dictated by seasonal pellet size count/weight then match a recipe with FPS that works for targets with my eyes and response time.

So far so good...

Putz463! There he is! Thanks again for your noce load! I always forget the numbers in your name and end up just calling you Putz lol.
Yes, promo is exact same loading by weight (not volume) as Red Dot! I guess I should ask if anyone has some red dot recipes then too. Or go find the 16ga reload spreadsheets again and redownload to my new computer!

I have an adjustable bar on 16ga 600jr that I could get 355gn on, but it has no rubber dogbone, so it constantly hangs up trying to shear pellets in half. And I'm getting a guy's 16ga mec9000 soon, so will be using 3/4 or 7/8oz bars, so just trying to find use. I thought I had an 8lb green dot, turns out I bought 2x promo 8 pounders!

Best regards!

Lee used to list Red Dot as useable in the 16 with 1 oz shot. They now show it only for 7/8 oz. I used the old recipe for years to shoot skeet in a beater Sweet Sixteen without a problem. No reason it wouldn't work with a lighter payload.

Just don't call me late for supper...you're welcome, w/~7.2k psi there's room to play.

Do you use those brass and/or rubber washers between the bottle & bar? Playing with differing combos of those usually helps me alleviate that bar sticking/pellet shaving situation, even with non-tox's or bars that don't have the rubber dog bone.

Putz, yah I have all the gromets and washers... that is usually for keeping powder from leaking though. The shot side had a rubber grommet, but that old adjustable bar was hanging up 90% of throws.

I'm just gonna replace it with a dogbone adjustable, since I already bought it 10 yrs ago lol.

Last year I conducted an extensive series of tests using the Pressure Trace II system on a wide range of 16 ga Red Dot loads. The results showed that 14.5 gr of Red Dot with 7/8 oz lead shot provided an excellent 16 ga skeet load with both 2 1/2” SG16 and 2 3/4” DR16 hull/wad combinations. Velocities were very consistent in the 1200-1210 fps range and pressures were consistent also, well below one of the most popular factory 16 ga game loads. It proved to be a very useful clean burning 16 ga skeet load.

On the other hand, testing of 1 oz loads with Red Dot showed inconsistent velocities and high pressures. The variability was alarming. I would not use Red Dot with 1 oz 16 ga loads under any circumstances.

Thx Brewster!
7/8oz is what I'm after, and I have 16 lbs powder so this will be a noce skeet load.
