| My FFL cleaned out a widows reloading stash from her late husband. I ended up with a good score on powder, loads and reloaders. I see a bunch of recipes for these older powders in the database. Anybody want to share some of their favorite recipes for me to start with? Trying to use them in straight wall hulls other than Remington, but I’ll try whatever. These would mostly be hunting loads as I only have a can of each. |

I have 1 oz. and 1 1/8 oz. loads for SR7625 and SR4756.
These are all published loads. They were tested with 10 shot strings. I would not hesitate to swap the Gualandi BRG16/21 (SG16) for the Bascheri & Pellagri Z2M16 wad when listed.
1 ounce loads:
Federal 2 3/4" w/paper basewad hull
Federal 209A primer
20.0 grains SR7625
Z2M16 wad
1 oz. lead shot
1,204 FPS 9,200 PSI
Federal 2 3/4" w/paper basewad hull
Federal 209A primer
22.0 grains SR7625
Z2M16 wad
1 oz. lead shot
1,286 FPS 10,500 PSI
Remington RGL 2 3/4" hull
Winchester 209 primer
20.0 grains SR7625
Z2M16 wad
1 oz. lead shot
1,222 FPS 10,100 PSI
Remington RGL 2 3/4" hull
Winchester 209 primer
22.0 grains SR7625
Z2M16 wad
1 oz. lead shot
1,292 FPS 11,200 PSI
Winchester 2 PC plastic 2 3/4" hull (current)
Winchester 209 primer
20.0 grains SR7625
Z2M16 wad
1 oz. lead shot
1,150 FPS 7,200 PSI
Winchester 2 PC plastic 2 3/4" hull (current)
Winchester 209 primer
22.0 grains SR7625
Z2M16 wad
1 oz. lead shot
1,224 FPS 8,100 PSI
Winchester 2 PC plastic 2 3/4" hull (current)
Winchester 209 primer
23.5 grains SR7625
Z2M16 wad
1 oz. lead shot
1,303 FPS 9,500 PSI
Winchester 2 PC plastic 2 3/4" hull (current)
Winchester 209 primer
25.0 grains SR7625
Z2M16 wad
1 oz. lead shot
1,366 FPS 10,600 PSI
_____________________________
1 1/8 ounce loads
(I have used this load for IA, SD and NE pheasants, late season in some very cold weather.)
Remington SP (RGL) 2 3/4" hull
Winchester 209 primer
20.0 grains SR7625
Remington SP16 wad
1 1/8 oz. lead shot
1,201 FPS 11,500 PSI
Remington SP (RGL) 2 3/4" hull
Winchester 209 primer
22.0 grains SR4756
Remington SP16 wad
1 1/8 oz. lead shot
1,187 FPS 10,800 PSI
There are more loads in the IMR May 2001 and Lyman #2 - Lyman #5 manuals, but the wad selections aren't good, as these are fine grain powders and they will migrate if the wad used doesn't fit well. If you have the Remington SP (RGL) hulls the SP16 wads work well with 1 1/8 oz. loads. The SP16 wad doesn't work with either powder in Federal paper basewad or the current Winchester (Cheddite style) hulls.
I do not have 3/4 oz. or 7/8 oz. loads for these powders. The reason is there are better powders for those light loads. 700-X & Green Dot are better choices. |

I have used this load, I really like it.
Remington SP (RGL) 2 3/4" hull
Winchester 209 primer
20.0 grains SR7625
Remington SP16 wad
1 1/8 oz. lead shot
1,201 FPS 11,500 PSI
Hodgdon has good data for both powders in the Remington RGL hull
and for 7625 in the Ched 2 1/2" hull |

fn16ga,
That load came out of the 'Blanks to Supersonics' Manual from Precision Reloading in 2003. I developed about 75% of the loads in the manual. Do you have a copy of it?
All of the 2 3/4" 16 gauge lead shot and bismuth loads in that manual were shot with a test barrel that Tom Armbrust loaned us, that was in 1999. Later on we got our own test barrel. If I remember right I started developing loads for that manual in late 1998, when we first got the lab built. It was temperature and humidity controlled, with all the right intake and exhaust air. Crooked 'S' Rd in Stafford Springs, CT. That takes me back. Good Stuff.
I tried to get the current owners of Precision to let me release all the 16 gauge data in that manual, but that was a no-go. Not really sure why, because they never sold the manual, but they have the rights to it I guess. |

I’ll have to look for a copy of that manual.
I used to make the drive to Precision to save on hazmat back in the late nineties or early 2000’s. I don’t golf, but I did think that dogleg front yard was neat.
I’ll probably start with the 1224 Winchester load, that looks about right for all my guns. If the pattern works and I can make it consistent, it’ll be a ruff load. |
