I would bet Doug is spinning in his grave with the site being in its twilight time. That article is from 2019. It is still as good a read today as it was 7 years ago.
I have been enamored of the 16ga for 52 years as an adult, as a 16ga Savage 755 was the first shotgun that I went hunting with after I turned 18. It was my dad's and I still have it.
My 16's of choice are Ithaca 37's (you all know this) and Browning Citoris. The Savage is a bit heavy, but will always hold a special place. I am trying to work out how it will stay in the family. |

A 16 ga Savage 775a was my first gun as well, and it was my father's too. My dad found two identical 16's back in the early 50's; my oldest brother bought one and my dad bought the other. When I got old enough dad's gun became mine. For years it was the only shotgun I owned, but then I got the double gun bug. My brother gave his to one of his sons and he tried to buy dad's gun from me for his other son but I just wasn't ready to turn loose of it quite yet, even though I wasn't shooting it.
I go to South Dakota to chase wild roosters with those two nephews every year, and a couple years ago on the trip I gave dad's gun to my nephew; it was time. My brother had passed, and I wish I had done it while he was still around to see it; he would have liked that. |
