On p. 324 of the new LC Smith book by John Houchins, is found a picture of Theodore Roosevelt's 16g 5E shipped Nov 24, 1909, too late to accompany him on his African safari. The gun is now in the Cody Firearms Museum.
Now I like him even more
TR's friend, White House correspondent, and Southern Gentleman Captain Archibald Butt
"When he comes into a room and stands as he always does for one second before doing something characteristic, he electrifies the company and gives one just that sensation which a pointer does when he first quivers and takes a stand on quail." |

Too cool . When we next meet in KS you will have to share the book with me.
If you liked TR before - go see Night at the Museum. Too funny to see him courting Sacagawea. If you can, go to the IMAX - the dinosaur is huge when it fetches the bone.
Oh, yeah - the 16 ga Ms. Elsie will get shot tomorrow in honor of TR and the other Elsie lovers..... |

Word is that Edmund Morris is working on his third/last book about TR which will cover both the African and S. American expeditions. Both The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt and Theodore Rex are wonderful reading.
TR
"Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat." |

TR is one of my Heroes, I strongly recommend "Mornings on Horseback" by David McCollugh and "Theodore Roosevelt a Life" by Nathan Miller. Each book added another facet to one of our truly great presidents. I found as I read about Teddy that there are little snippets that one author wouldn't cover well enough to give a solid understanding of what his feelings or opinions were on a particular subject. Once you read about the point in question across three or four authors you get a better understanding of why Teddy had strong feelings Good or Bad about something. He set the stage for the American People to take an International role in Politics and Projection of Strength. I would surmise he was the sole reason WWI didn't happen any earlier, the kaiser recognized strength and willingness to use it. Too bad we can't come up with a Leader of those qualities these days.
Have a Grand Day Gentlemen
