Elegant but economical Belgian hammer gun, 16 ga. About 60% fine scroll coverage throughout, with high fences and long tangs. Crisp triggers and good condition hammers. Lever to right, barrels tight and on-face with sideclips, 70mm marked chambers on 27.25 inch fluid steel barrels, very good bores and filed rib, no barrel dents/bulges/pits, only some thinning blue. Chokes marked 16.3/17 and 16.9/17. Suitable for modern lead loads to 1 oz. Push-button forend iron, narrow sling swivels. Current LOP 14.5 over pad. Wt. 6.3 lbs. Flaws: english stock has moderate fiddleback figure, but could use TLC... no cracks, but it had three peanut-sized gouges filled then the whole butt heavily Tru-Oiled, checkering deserves recut and pad replaced; two screws don’t match; right plate has imperfections diameter of two match heads… probably original voids. Also has odd shim near the rib extension, perhaps to elevate POI. This may be an apprentice or guild gun, as it displays no maker’s name, but must have come from a top shop around 1900. I’ve just been using it for fun hunts, because I didn’t need to fret over it. Many pictures on request to deeble@montana.com. My no-dicker price is $850 plus shipping.

Question on that gun: is one of the proofmarks a 16 over C in a diamond, or is it 16-70 inside a sort of capital C? Thanks.

Hi Larry:

The proof mark is a 16 over C inside a diamond.

The "70" is towards the muzzle on the flat.

I have a pic if you'd like to see it.

Thanks for asking,
Ben

Thanks, Ben. That tells me what I need to know. Was trying to get a ballpark date on that gun. 16 over a C means 1924 or earlier.
